Sedation Dentistry
Our dental office provides oral sedation and nitrous oxide to patients. Oral sedation is taken as a pill prior to treatment. Because it takes time for the sedation to take effect and wear off, patients will need to be driven to and from their appointments. Under oral sedation, patients will feel sleepy and may stay awake but will not remember their procedure.
Nitrous oxide is a common type of dental sedation that dentists deliver with oxygen through a mask or nasal cannula. Under nitrous oxide, patients may feel happy or giggly but relaxed. Patients can resume normal activities after care that uses nitrous oxide, because the nitrous oxide takes effect and wears off quickly.
In addition to dental sedation, we use local anesthesia to numb treated areas of the mouth so patients do not feel any pain or discomfort. We may use anesthesia alone or in addition to dental sedation.
